Rotary Zones 29 and 30 and The Rotary Foundation have established a Donor Advised Fund called the "Katrina Relief Fund" and are prepared to receive contributions. A committee identified by the leadership in the two zones is working with local Rotary clubs and districts, as well as emergency relief agencies, to meet the most pressing needs of people in the affected areas.
Contributions are tax deductible for US citizens.
Rotary Foundation recognition will not be awarded for contributions to this fund.
Make all checks payable to "TRF DAF" and indicate "Katrina Relief Fund" in the MEMO line.

RI Zones 29 and 30, which include areas affected by Katrina and surrounding districts, have deployed 100 Shelter Boxes to Houston, Texas for the refugees stationed there. RI Director Robert Stuart is overseeing the collection of funds for additional boxes. The Shelter Box project began as a Rotary club-to-club project to provide disaster victims with necessary items. The boxes are being prepared to meet the needs of the hurricane/flood victims, containing two tents, water purification tablets, and other miscellaneous tools and equipment. Each box costs US$900 and will provide support for 20 people. Mississippi District 6820 and Louisiana and Mississippi District 6840 are collecting funds to provide immediate and long-term assistance to communities in the affected areas of their districts. Louisiana District 6200 has established a relief fund for the victims of Hurricane Katrina supporting efforts throughout the southern Gulf Coast region. The trustees of the District 6200 Foundation are working with the District's Disaster Relief Committee, local Rotary clubs, surrounding Rotary districts, as well as emergency relief agencies. Initially, the committee will work to address the most urgent needs. Long-term support will then be established through The Rotary Foundation Matching Grant projects. The Rotary Club of Hattiesburg in Mississippi has established a relief fund to be used for the immediate and long-term humanitarian needs of the affected people and animal shelters in District 6840. The club will also facilitate club-to-club matches for contributing clubs that would like to work with clubs in the affected areas to plan rehabilitation projects.
