Katrina Relief efforts of D5130 Clubs
(as reported to DG Charlie)
|
Many more Clubs (than have reported here) have sent contributions, and others are waiting for the opportunity to do long-term projects, perhaps through Matching Grants, or directly with affected Clubs for rebuilding (which doesn't qualify for MGs)
If/as any of you develop any connections with Rotary Clubs and/or other relief organizations/efforts, please get that info to DG Charlie via email.
Sebastopol Sunrise www.sebsunriserotary.org has raised $3,800 from several sources: our club meeting, from public donations at our Cajun Zydeco Festival, and from a private fundraiser by our own member, Tess Ostopowicz at GTO Seafood. Our board met and discussed the needs of those in the Gulf States and raised the amount to a total of $10,000. We are currently investigating a club-to-club effort and hope to make decisions within next 2-3 months.

contributions have reached $8,000, plus an additional $3,075 collected by our Petaluma Junior High Interact Club...so you can put us in at $11,075 at this point. I went to the school this morning to receive the check from the students at a student body assembly. And who said the youth are going to the dogs, not us...

Hi all: the Rotary Club of Ukiah www.ukiahrotary.org has so far collected about $4000 and several members have bought a LOT of clothes, socks, underwear for children. We have a contact* (see below) with a Rotary Club in Baton Rouge and their district has a foundation; we can direct the money to a Club in their district which will work with you. You can call me at 707/485-7579 or 462-5551 and I will be happy to talk with you.

The BR Capital City Rotary has received lists of items the evacuees need. I will forward such a list to you. We would be happy to make the purchases and deliver the items to the shelters and take pictures of the items for your reference. We would deliver those items in your Club's name.
Please let me know how we can help you with the donations.
We have been experiencing technical problems with cell phones and land lines.
My cell phone number is 225-335-0322.

raised over $5000 last week for relief help. We are working with the Salvation Army because we have a Club member who is the Captain of the local branch. They are deeply involved. Any Club looking for a connection is welcome to join us. 100% of our donation will go to the relief effort.

The Rotary Clubs in the Arcata and Eureka area have joined together with the Carl Johnson Auction Co. to conduct an auction to help the citizens of Hancock County, Mississippi. This area was absolutely devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The joint Rotary Clubs of Biloxi and the Bayshore region have asked for our help.
The auction will be at the Carl Johnson Co auction facility on Jacobs Rd. north of Eureka. The date is January 28, 2006. We are asking Rotarians and friends of Rotary to donate quality items that you no longer need or want. Such items as functioning appliances, furniture, power tools, boats, trailers vehicles. If you have an item please call Don Johnson at Carl Johnson & Co. (443-4851) to check and see if it is a marketable item.
Donations will be tax deductible and greatly appreciated. All funds will be sent to our Rotary friends to support worthy projects to rehabilitate schools, libraries and other community needs.
To arrange for drop off or pickup of donated items please call Aalf, Evans & Co at 444-8242.
Time is of essence. In order to conduct an orderly auction, we must know what we have in our inventory as soon as possible. If possible call and make your donation before the end of the year. We must close donations no later than January 21. Ask your friends, ask your neighbor and ask your relatives to help us make Christmas a little better in Biloxi.
Thanks for Making a Difference!
