To all District Officers, Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee and Club Presidents of District 5130
SUBJECT: Ambassadorial Scholarships Sought for 2011-2012
I would like to ask all Club Presidents to pass on the following information to their Club Foundation Chairman and the Club Scholarship Committee:
Applications for the 2011-2012 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships are now available from Rotary District 5130. The District deadline is July 1, 2010. Required, in-person interviews will be held Sunday, August 15,2010 2009, location TBA. While individual clubs determines the deadline for completing candidate interviews, it is recommended this is complete by June 15. For further information and to print an application, go to www.rotary.org and click on Students and Youth.
Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for one academic year abroad and provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, necessary educational supplies, and language training (if necessary) up to a maximum award of US $23,000 or its equivalent.
During their studies abroad, Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars act as "ambassadors of goodwill." Through appearances before Rotary clubs and districts, schools, civic organizations, and other forums, the scholars represent their homelands and work to further international understanding.
The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships Program is the world's largest privately sponsored international scholarship program. Some US $320 million has been spent on 30,000 international scholarships since the program began in 1947.
Some Application forms are available. Since I do not have enough forms to send to each Club, I suggest that applicants download the forms from the Rotary web site, www.rotary.org. The applications are ready for download now. If for any reason this is not possible, please contact me and I will send a copy to either the applicant or the sponsoring Club.
A pamphlet, 132 EN 0806 which explains the program in detail is also available at the website and should be read by the applicant before they do anything else. The website also provides other information which will help in filling out the application. For the Club Committee, a Program Guide for Rotarians can be found in the Rotary Foundation section of the website as well. It provides a lot of information for processing the application.
The timetable for completing the application is up to each Club, however, the deadline to have the application sent to me at the District level is July 6, 2009 . The interview with the candidates will be at the beginning of August, date and place to be announced later.
It is up to us to promote this incredible program and to find qualified candidates. Consider sending a press release, such as the one posted here to your local newspaper and contacting local high schools for a list of their alumni from 2 years ago with high GPA's. I hope that all clubs in our district will participate in this program by finding qualified candidates.
If you have any questions, feel free to call or e-mail me anytime. Thanks for your service.
