A message from District Governor Bruce Campbell
- January 17 2005
Rotarians of District 5130, YOU are AMAZING!!!
In the few short weeks since the disastrous tsunami hit the Far East, you have rallied to help in so many ways. Certainly not the least of your efforts is the amount of funds you have donated or pledged to donate to assist in the relief efforts both short term and over the long haul. I am proud to announce that as of this weekend, with only 26 of our 43 clubs reporting you have raised over
$114,000 <updated January 19 2005>
Yes, that is right
one hundred and fourteen THOUSAND dollars.
I know there is more arriving daily and I will keep you posted here on the total as it grows. Some of the funds have already been distributed at your request thru the Rotary Foundation. Other funds have been sent with Rotarian Joe Dacanay (Napa) on his trip to Sri Lanka with an EMT team for medicines. They will be working directly with the Columbo Regency Rotary in Sri Lanka. He is there now with the team. Rotarian Joe Lindland's (Rohnert Park-Cotati) generous challenge match of $10,000 has been met and exceeded. Those funds will be wired to the Rotary Club of Patong Beach, Thailand shortly.
We will be working with Rotarians in our district to continue to identify the need based on our contacts with Rotarians in the affected areas.
I am very proud to say I am your Governor this year. Thank you for your generosity and kindness to those who so need our help.
For those of you who have not yet contributed and wish to do so, checks should be made to Rotary District 5130 Tsunami Relief and mailed to District Treasurer Mike Baldus, PO Box 2100, Sebastopol, CA 95472 to be included in our total giving.
