AUGUST 2007

MEMBERSHIP AND EXTENSION MONTH

District 5130
Governor's Newsletter

Greetings from Governor Ken! As we conclude the first month of the new Rotary year, I hope that each of you have gotten off to a great start in this year of "Sharing". Pam and I have started our club visitations and are in awe of the great things that are happening in our District. As we visit individual Clubs we are impressed with the variety of projects and the level of commitment by Rotarians in District 5130. It is like being enrolled in a graduate course on "Service Above Self".

In Rotary, the month of August is set aside for membership development and extension. I hope all Clubs are encouraging members to invite someone to a meal. Membership growth is critical to our organization and must be embraced by all members. Rotary International has set its Membership goal as a "Net 1" for each club in the coming year. Most clubs in our District have set the bar higher than Net 1. I believe that we can achieve and exceed those numbers. Each Club President has been asked to "lead the way" by bringing in a new member before the end of this month.

A special Rotary pin will be given to each sponsor of a new member during the coming year. Special acknowledgement to Lakeport President Ilene Dumont who has offered to donate $100 each month to the Rotary Foundation if one or more new members are inducted into her Club during that month.

I urge each of you to "share Rotary" with a qualified individual sometime this month by inviting them to your Club and submitting their name for potential membership. It may be a "life changing" experience for them!

Yours in Rotary,

Ken
