DG ERNA's May 2007 Newsletter
Dear Rotarians,

District Conference, May 18-20th

A different kind of District Conference with so much to Celebrate!

An ordinary event isn't enough, so we've set up the BIG TOP ideas. This year, in addition to the Bru Brunnier Golf Tournament on Thursday, May 17, we're . . .
  • Celebrating YOUR business and profession through the Rotary Business Expo on Friday!
  • Celebrating YOUR accomplishments in your club projects!
  • Celebrating a new club in our district . . . Rancho Cotati!
  • Celebrating YOUTH EXCHANGE at Brunch on Sunday!
  • Celebrating 20 years of growth since women joined Rotary!
If you miss it, we'll miss you. Sign up today at www.rotary5130.org! Thanks to District Governor Nominee (2008-09) Ed Fullerton for his excellent chairmanship.

The Annual District Business Meeting, held at the District Conference, is set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007. Your delegates must be in attendance to vote. Each club is entitled to one delegate for each 25 members, and another delegate for each additional 25 members or major fraction thereof. Delegates checking in at Registration should also check in at the Credentials Table. The delegates must be certified before the voting. Separate emails went out to Club Presidents regarding this meeting. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me. My new cell phone number: 815-2287.

Attendance requirements to change
Rotary International's Council on Legislation has met and approved changes to the RI constitutional documents. One change is that members will now be required to attend 50% of the meetings in a half-year, down from 60%. For full coverage of the votes, please go to http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/events/col_table.html. You can than go to the various Volumes of enactments for specifics. These become effective 1 July 2007.
Foundation Giving . . . and Polio Eradication Success Update
Donations received by June 15th count for the 2006-07 Rotary year. Long after we're gone, people will remember that Rotary was the catalyst and the standard-bearer for ending Polio on our planet. So please include that campaign in your giving. WHY?

As of April 3, 2007, the case count is as follows: For all of 2006: cases in endemic countries: 1,872 (Afghanistan 31; India 674; Nigeria 1,127; Pakistan 40). For all of 2006: cases in non endemic countries: 128. Global count year to date in 2007 is 80. Comparative figure last year was 149, a decrease of 46%. For more information, visit www.polioeradication.org.
We are so close to eradicating Polio, let's not give up now. Make that contribution today.
GIVE UNTIL IT FEELS GOOD!

    by PDG Jack Vallerga
When District 513 was split in 1991, the southern part became District 515 and the northern part, our District, retained the number 513. District 5130 was not a new District, but the number was changed when R.I. added a zero to all District numbers. Note from DG Erna: The complete list of District numbers, District Governors and their home clubs, and the locations of the District Conferences (you'll see some surprising locations!) and Rotary International Conventions is available on our district web site, www.rotary5130.org at this link.
SEE YOU AT THE DISTRICT CONFERENCE!
DON'T MISS THE CELEBRATION OF OUR YEAR. Thank you for all you do.
