A message from Rotary District 5130 Governor Erna Stevenson -
I am pleased to announce that the Nominating Committee of our District has selected Rotarian Kirk Brown from the Rotary Club of Del Norte Sunrise to serve as District 5130 Governor for the year 2009-2010.
Kirk is a native Californian, born September 11, 1944 in San Francisco, California.
He was raised in Santa Rosa, CA and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1962. He attended Santa Rosa Jr. College and graduated from Southern Oregon College in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He is a U. S. Navy Veteran.
Growing up in Santa Rosa, Kirk was active in youth and high school sports and in the Boy Scouts where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and earned the God and Country Award. He attended the 1960 Boy Scout Jamboree as the Senior Patrol Leader of the Sonoma-Mendocino Area Council Troop.
While attending Southern Oregon College Kirk was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and was vice president of the Class of 1967. It was during his senior year that Kirk met the love of his life, Ellen, and they were married in 1968. They have 2 children Angela and Matthew, and 2 grandsons, Adam and Clay.
Soon after he graduated from high school, Kirk's parents moved to Crescent City, CA where they opened Crescent Land Title Company. Kirk joined the firm in 1972 and is now the owner. He has been active in the Crescent City-Del Norte County Community, serving as a Director of the Chamber of Commerce, coached youth football, Babe Ruth baseball, and Jr. High basketball. He serves on the annual Veterans Day Celebration Committee; Fish and Game Advisory Committee and is a director of the Del Norte Scouting Trust. He is a member the Crescent City Elks Lodge and served as Exalted Ruler in 1977-78 and again in 2001-02.
Kirk joined the Crescent City Rotary Club in 1974 and has served on its Board of Directors and was editor of the Lumberjack Bulletin for several years. He remained active in the club until the Del Norte Sunrise Club was chartered in 1995 in which he became a charter member. Kirk chaired the Charter Night Dinner and has served as the Rotary Foundation Chairman for the club for several years. He was the co-chairman of the 2001 Foundation Dinner (North) and served as the president of the Del Norte Sunrise Club in 2002-03. He has served has DCC and as Assistant Governor for 2 years and will be an Assistant Governor for the 2007-08 year. Kirk, Ellen, Angela and Matthew are Paul Harris Fellows.
In his free time Kirk enjoys hunting, fly fishing, amateur radio, cooking and tasting fine wines.
