Local Rotary Clubs Donate $10,000 to SRJC Fire Relief Fund

Tree Planting at SRJC with Rotary International President  To Honor Students, Faculty, Staff Who Lost Homes To Fire

Santa Rosa, CA – On Thursday, January 4, 2018, Rotary International President Ian Riseley and local Rotary leaders will join Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Superintendent and President Frank Chong and other members of the SRJC community in a tree planting ceremony and check presentation from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the SRJC sign on Mendocino Avenue, south of Elliott Avenue in Santa Rosa. Rotary Clubs of Santa Rosa (District 5130) are donating $10,000 to the SRJC Fire Relief Fund to help students, faculty and staff who’ve lost their homes recover.

The event is part of the local Rotary Clubs’ fire relief effort to honor and support students, faculty and staff seriously impacted by the October North Bay fires.

The planting ceremony will include a Valley Oak sapling, dubbed the Rotary Phoenix Tree. The sapling came from, and will be in the same location as, an oak that was felled during a storm in 2014. The planting will be a symbolic celebration of renewal and hope, as well as a celebratory acknowledgement of the 100th anniversary celebration of the College, which will take place throughout 2018. The event is sponsored by Rotary International and the Rotary Clubs of Santa Rosa.
