FAQs about the District Governor's Rotary Club visits

Back to the DG Visits Page

WHY?

RI requires that the DG visit each Club at least once.

Sometimes the DG has interesting input; often the DG learns something that is useful for other Clubs. BRAG about what you're most proud of!

The Board Meeting can be a good place to approach problems or concerns that are amenable to small-group discussion. If there is a major concern or a question about a particular Club or District Committee or function, please bring that to my attention before the meeting.

WHO?

At the Board Meeting, it is expected that the full Board will attend, along with any special Committee Chairs.

At the Club meeting, all members are "encouraged" to be there; spouses and visitors are also welcome (they might enjoy it).

WHEN?

The Board Meeting should be scheduled for an hour to an hour and a half (max), and it can be the day before a sunrise meeting and just before a lunch or dinner meeting; please leave at least a half hour between the Board and Club meetings. (It isn't really required that the DG meet the Board prior to the regular club meeting - it's just the usual way we do things).

WHERE?

For District Governor overnight stays, please arrange for a modest motel room (with Internet access, please), rather than a private home. (It's not that I'm anti-social, but there is a significant amount of paperwork that DGs have to do; if/when I visit "for fun" (a service project or social function), home stays are great!)

WHAT?

Before the Board Meeting, the DG (and AG) should have received the "Club Inventory". At the Board Meting (before is preferable), the following additional data should be provided: "Goals & Objectives", a Budget, a Club Roster, and a Calendar of Events (Although some of these may be published on Club websites, please provide paper copies to the DG and AG).

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Please invite the Assistant Governor to the Board Meeting and to the Club Meeting (and yes, the meal for both the DG and AG should be comped).

The AG usually introduces the DG, but other arrangements are OK.

Socials can often be scheduled with other nearby Clubs.

There should be no other program at the Club Meeting other than the District Governor - but if you have a special recognition (Paul Harris presentation / long membership / Exchange Student / etc.), please offer the DG a chance to take part (preferably with a little advance notice).

I would like to be interactive with Club members during my remarks
