We also assign a mentor who is not the sponsor and I think it's a good idea. The sponsor might be the "salesperson" (recruiter) while the mentor is the one to whom the new member can turn with the questions about what Rotary is. It doesn't seem a disconnect to me. The people who sponsor are often out finding another new member while the mentor can take them to a make-up or talk to them about The Rotary Foundation. The sponsor recruits and the mentor retains?
