The Sonoma State Rotaractors organized a peace celebration that involved planting two significant peace trees in their campus courtyard. These trees originated from seeds of a tree that endured the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Alongside the Hiroshima tree, Fred Ptucha, a Rotarian and founder of the Veterans for Peace organization from the Santa Rosa East-West Rotary, supervised the installation of a Peace Pole engraved with the message, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” in eight different languages. This marked the campus’s inaugural Peace Ceremony, attracting over 100 students, faculty, and community members.
